Freshly shelled peas that 'pop' out of their pods are a real highlight for many gardeners, who usually end up eating them raw as they are shelling them !! Try and keep some for cooking later though if you can....

We are used to eating Borlotti, Cannellini, Lupini and Chick peas beans out of tins or seeing them dried. Why not grow them and eat them fresh instead? Borlotti beans freeze brilliantly.

Avoid problems by sowing seeds during early May in pots or root trainers in the greenhouse. Robust young plants will be ready to plant outside within about 5 weeks, growing away far quicker than outdoor sowings".

We reccomend the Climbing Yellow French Bean 'Meraviglia' from Venice for summer bean salads, boiled for 8 minutes, then dressed in Italian extra virgin olive oil from your local deli, Balsamic vinegar of Modena, salt and pepper. Why not also try the Borlotti 'Lamon' for making the famous Venetian dish of 'Pasta e Fagioli'
